with my nakba posts, here’s some website recommendations if you want to learn on the history of specific depopulated palestinian areas:

  • palestine remembered is probably the most famous and comprehensive website with full documentations of former locations and depopulated villages. it also lists information on palestinian refugee camps, guestbooks, and the ability to upload pictures. information on each village varies.
  • zochrot is an organization dedicated to teaching both palestinians and israelis about the 1948 nakba (which is not covered well if at all in israeli schools, as you can probably imagine), which includes documenting information on villages and even an app. information on each village varies.
  • the interactive encyclopedia for the palestinian question’s places page has some detailed histories and a map as well, but doesn’t go into the detail of the last two sites, and doesn’t have pictures or sources.
  • many villages also have their own websites, and many of them are also in english (for example, the one i linked for kafr bir'im). honestly just look up (village name) + website and if it’s there you’ll find it.
  • wikipedia also has surprisingly comprehensive coverage of the villages, the articles include a little more of the “war” background than the other websites do.
  • all that remains: the palestinian villages occupied and depopulated by israel in 1948 is a famous book by palestinian historian walid khalidi which gives a detailed account of what became of 400 different depopulated palestinian villages. it was released in 1992, so it’s not current, but many of the things he wrote still hold.

the palestinian film institute and the palestine film platform are screening ‘unprovoked narratives’ — a program of 12 films celebrating the beauty of Gaza, its people, its struggle and its survival

the films will be available to watch for free through october 21st

the films are still active on the website, i’ve seen ppl in the tags say it was extended to the 25th, however i would also like to add that you can find more palestinian cinema all year round through the solidaritycinema’s plex archive for free, and on aflamuna and shashamovies (they are curated platforms focusing on arab/swana filmmakers so not exclusively palestinian)

There is still hope. Say it out loud. Palestine will be free. The Palestinian people will celebrate their culture and heritage with each other. We will love and be loved. Do not fall into the trap of despair.

I’m not saying this just for morale. I’m saying this as a reminder that the colonialist regime relies on your despair, uses it to further their propaganda. Once you lose hope, and tell everyone you lose hope, you are aiding the Zionist Entity.

Make it a point that you BELIEVE that Palestine will be free even in the face of genocide. Hope can halt genocide. Do not aid our oppressors.

“donate to gaza” “humanitarian aid to gaza” “raise money for gaza” and egypt, gaza’s neighbor that has the only border through which aid can get through, cannot currently get aid through to gaza because israel is refusing to let the trucks pass. the gate was supposed to open three hours ago in a deal struck between egypt and the US to let foreign gaza nationals out and humanitarian aid in. now israel is denying it. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said in a statement: “There is currently no truce and humanitarian aid in Gaza in exchange for getting foreigners out.” and this is after israel bombed the border crossing three times in the past week. this is the reality that’s happening right now. the tonnes of aid that countries are donating, the money the EU is promising, all of this is NOT GETTING THROUGH TO GAZA. if egyptians cannot get through to gaza, nobody can!!!!! the only fucking way this happens is through international pressure to hold israel accountable and that is currently not happening!!!

this is genocide. israel is a fascist state with genocidal maniacs in charge, and they want gazans obliterated, they want gaza gone. this is genocide happening right in front of us. and the entire first world has sanctioned it.
